Communities 2.0 is a project which helps community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises in Wales do more with technology.
It’s a Welsh Assembly Government programme which is delivered by five partner organisations – the Wales Co-operative Centre, the Novas Scarman Group, Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services, Carmarthenshire County Council and the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling at the University of Glamorgan.
Much of the funding for Communities 2.0 has come from the European Regional Development Fund.
Our Partners
The Wales Co-operative Centre has been offering social enterprise support services for over 25 years and delivered the Communities @One digital inclusion initiative. In providing services which link digital inclusion and social enterprise support activity, the Wales Co-operative Centre will bring an integrated approach to the delivery of Communities 2.0.
Carmarthenshire County Council will deliver digital inclusion and business support services within Carmarthenshire during Communities 2.0. The local authority will also take the lead on initiatives to digitally connect communities to government services (e-government).
Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services brings IT technical expertise to Communities 2.0. Its key role will be in developing and expanding the ‘Circuit Rider’ service, whilst also offering other technical services and training.
The Novas Scarman Group will offer support around digital inclusion and wider community and social enterprise development. It has particular skills in working with the most hard to reach and disadvantaged groups, such as homeless people, people from ethnic minority groups and disengaged young people.
The University of Glamorgan is involved in Communities 2.0 through the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling (GEECS), within the faculty of Creative & Cultural Industries. GEECS will develop a ‘centre of excellence’ around digital storytelling and creative media and will deliver training and community focused services.
